ABOUT ME

Julia Schroeder is a multidisciplinary artist, communications specialist, and event curator based in Chicago. She goes by the moniker of Spoolia Spirals, which stems from a childhood nickname. Back then, she never wanted to stop spinning in circles. Now, she finds joy through flow arts and connecting with other kindred spirits.

Her hoop journey began in 2017. While wrapping up a degree in public relations at Northern Michigan University, Julia started practicing yoga and felt drawn to meditation as movement. She fell in love with hoop dance, learning tricks and finding inspiration through other hoopers on Instagram and YouTube.

At that time, she was unaware of how much a dedication to practicing flow arts would alleviate anxiety and help her discover joy in community. Hooping set ablaze the fire she had just begun to kindle, which enabled her to break free from the things that held her back.

These days, you can find Julia on the shores of Lake Michigan, fire dancing, leading hoop workshops, writing a book, creating zines, spinning on a lyra, or walking her dog.
