My Story

I’m Julia Schroeder, a middle child, multidisciplinary artist, and communications specialist based in Chicago. I go by the moniker of Spoolia Spirals, which stems from a childhood nickname. As I grew older, I continued to spin in circles and discovered a newfound joy through flow arts, connecting with other kindred spirits.

I have a thing for stories, so here’s a small piece of mine:

In 2017, while wrapping up my degree in public relations at Northern Michigan University, I fell in love with hoop dance. Hooping has been the gateway to finding confidence, community, and self-expression.

Hooping set ablaze the fire I had just begun to kindle through other areas of my life, which enabled me to break free from the things that held me back. Now, I am a budding aerialist and instructor with an intention to encourage and inspire new connections through mindful movement.

You can find me on the shores of Lake Michigan fire dancing, leading hoop workshops, writing my book, creating zines, spinning on a lyra (aerial hoop), or walking my dog.
